What Variantly is
Variantly is a Shopify app that runs A/B tests on your storefront. It is installed by merchants through Shopify, and it processes data on behalf of the store that installs it.
What we collect on your storefront
- One first-party cookie that remembers which version of a test each visitor was assigned. It contains a random identifier and the assignment, nothing else, and it is not used to track anyone across other websites.
- Anonymous events: page views, add to cart, checkout started and orders, each tied to that random identifier. We do not collect shopper names, email addresses, postal addresses or payment details through the storefront. Bot and theme-preview traffic is excluded from results.
What we receive from Shopify
- Order details (totals, line items and, where you provide them, product costs) so orders can be attributed to the version the shopper saw and results can be reported as revenue and profit per visitor.
- Your shop domain and the authentication tokens Shopify issues when you install the app.
What we do with it
Compute your test results. That is the whole list. We do not sell data, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not use your store’s data to train anything or to benefit anyone other than you.
Deletion
- Shopper data requests and erasure requests made through Shopify are honoured automatically via Shopify’s privacy webhooks.
- When you uninstall Variantly, Shopify sends a shop-erasure request and your store’s data is deleted in response.
Where data lives
Test data is stored in Variantly’s own database and is not shared with third parties beyond the hosting infrastructure it runs on.
